BIRD OF PREY CARE & MANAGEMENT QUALIFICATION NATIONAL ACCREDITATION THROUGH OPEN COLLEGE NETWORK

Are you an Experienced Falconer or Raptor Keeper?

We probably can't teach you anything, but we can help you gain recognition for what you can already do!

You will be able to gain a recognized National award by accreditation of learning gained through your prior experience.

For centuries Falconers have been the custodians of bird of prey management - they invented it! But increasingly bird of prey keepers are required to demonstrate that they are competent to manage their birds and be responsible for their welfare.

We can offer you:

  • One-day assessment leading to an accredited award for successful participants
  • Assessment based predominantly on practical skills
  • Syllabus materials explaining what to expect provided beforehand
  • Assessment days throughout the year
  • One day preparation course for assessment days are also available

Why do I need the Qualification….?

  • Demonstrate that you have base-line competence in Bird of Prey Care and Management
  • Convince bird of prey breeders you are capable of looking after birds you buy
  • If you are a falconer, convince landowners that you know what you are doing
  • Teach Falconry Courses? Help persuade clients that you offer a quality product
  • Seeking employment with birds of prey? show prospective employers that you have a foundation level of ability
  • Show the authorities and the public that we are competent keepers who take responsibilities seriously!

…..can you afford not to have the Qualification?

Who can Take the Assessment?

  • Anyone who has been a Falconer or Bird of Prey Keeper ….since forever
  • Those who have participated in a Falconry Club Apprenticeship Scheme
  • Those who have taken a bespoke course in Falconry or Raptor Management at a recognized centre or college and have subsequently kept birds of prey
  • Those who have learned about falconry and bird of prey keeping from family member or friend

The assessment is co-ordinated by Dr Mike Nicholls Associates in conjunction with Eagle Heights and the Elmley Raptor Education Project. Accreditation is through the Open College Network who moderate the assessment and award the national qualification.

The Venue: -

Eagle Heights Bird of Prey Centre - based in Eynsford, Kent. However, for large enough groups, assessment days can be organised at other centres, falconry clubs, agricultural and other colleges etc.

Validating Body: -

Open College Network (OCN) - the largest awarding body for Vocational Qualifications in the United Kingdom. Their qualifications are nationally recognized by employers, public bodies, QCA and are comparable to vocational awards in all sectors and subjects.
