The Africa Show » What's it all about?! The Africa Show is designed to give visitors a real sense of an African hunting scene! The show begins with Annie the African Fish Eagle who demonstrates her natural behaviour and shows the crowd why this eagle is called 'The Voice of Africa' with her fantastic vocal skills! Next up is the Cheetah! This kind of demonstration cannot be seen anywhere else in the UK that we know of! The Cheetah is brought outside of his enclosure, taken to the top of the arena and attached to a zip-wire. Once the keepers are ready the Cheetah will then spot, chase and 'kill' his dinner! Finishing his sprint just a few feet in front of the crowd! This is not only fantastic stimulation for the Cheetah himself, but is also an unforgettable experience for children and adults alike! Next the scavengers are released! Completing the cycle of African life! Once the Cheetah has filled his tummy the scavengers come to dine! This consists of Vultures circling, Marabou Storks stealing scraps and Eagles dive-bombing the carcass! This show has been named one of the best wildlife shows in the UK The aim of this demonstration is to educate the general public about the ongoing conservation issues in Africa. We raise money annually for The Cheetah Conservation Fund in Namibia and other African Charities. We need to raise as much awareness as possible and we feel the best way to achieve this is by inspiring our visitors! A selection of comments received from schools:

“The children thoroughly enjoyed learning about the birds, and of course the highlight for the children was the flight of the birds across the school hall, and the chance to be photographed with the birds of prey. Many of the teachers at West Hill are very aware of the dangers which face many animals and birds, through the destruction of their natural habitat, and they do try to impart this concern to the children.  We believe that your role in visiting schools and adopting a policy of informing children of these real dilemmas is extremely important”  P.M. Hindle – West Hill CP Infants

“The children have not stopped talking about your brilliant presentation.  One mother wrote in saying that her son had declared it “the best day of my life”.  I have no doubt that several ornithologists were born this week thanks to you”  C. Teesdale – Vinehall School, East Sussex

“All my colleagues and pupils in this school would join me in thanking you for the fascinating day you gave us yesterday.  It was a unique and enthralling experience for all of us.  The staff were particularly impressed with your sensitive and informative answers to the children’s questions, they were exactly at their level.  We have all learnt something and will never forget the wonder of birds flying”

“The children really enjoyed your talk and were fascinated by the birds – so were all the staff!  To see the birds at such close quarters and to watch them fly across the hall was quite spectacular.  The children could not stop talking about it.  I do hope we can call you back next year”F. Pohle – Rhyl School, London NW3

“It was wonderful to be able to observe the birds at such close quarters and to be able to hold them.  The children were full of it afterwards and many parents commented the next day on how much the children had enjoyed their experience”P Suytz - Dulwich College Preparatory School, Kent
